Creative agency.

“We were already living off our skills but had no idea how to make a sustainable business that would grow.” These words from Mete Erdogan are similar to those of many bright young creatives. After a very impressive start – how do you keep the momentum going?

After graduating from Monash University in Melbourne with a Bachelor of Visual Communication (Honours) Mete moved to New York to look for work. He sent out 150 postcards with his artwork on one side and letters to his favourite design studios on the other. “I received about five responses” says Mete, “one was from legendary designer Milton Glaser (think of the ‘I Heart NY’ icon). He recommended me to advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi.”

After an internship Mete was offered a full-time job as an art director at Saatchi & Saatchi. His work there won a Cannes Lion, and a CLIO award.

“I wrapped up my time in New York because I’d achieved what I set out to do and then some. New York is a fun city but it can wear you out, I felt that a life back in Melbourne, with my friends and family, would be a healthier and happier one.”

Back in Melbourne, Mete and friend Nick decided to combine their freelance businesses into something bigger. “Although we were both successful in our own rights, we didn’t know how to run a business, so we signed up for NEIS training at Kangan Institute in Essendon,” said Mete.

“The most important thing for us in the NEIS training was the financial planning. This made us consider our own personal and business expenses and weigh them up against how much money we’d need to make to not only keep the business running, but also grow it. NEIS provided that framework”, Mete explains.

The new business is Either Either, a multidisciplinary creative collective, with a team of freelance specialists in branding, film, animation and illustration, combining high quality with fast turnaround. They were soon acknowledged as a Best New Business finalist in the 2019 NEIS Awards.

Either Either’s three-part AMSR series created for MYOB highlights the small, satisfying moments tradies experience in their daily work. The strong, colour palette makes for an iconic visual, with excellent brand recall.

Either Either’s crafted visuals work as moving images or stills, with an online shop selling their striking, irreverent designs as A2 limited edition prints.
