Excellence Behind the Scenes – 2025 Unsung Hero Award Winner

The National Self-Employment Association proudly recognises Sonya from APM as the recipient of the 2025 Unsung Hero Award.

As the Self-Employment Assistance Program’s Administrative Officer, Sonya plays a critical role in ensuring the program operates smoothly, efficiently and in full alignment with guidelines. While much of her work happens behind the scenes, her impact is felt across every level of delivery.

Sonya is the steady, dependable presence that both staff and program participants rely on within APM. Her organisation, attention to detail and deep understanding of the program framework ensure that processes are accurate, compliant and timely. By streamlining workflows and maintaining clear communication, she enables consultants to focus confidently on supporting participants and achieving outcomes.

She is well recognised for her extraordinary work ethic and for consistently going above and beyond to deliver professional support while maintaining both program integrity and participant care. Her kindness, reliability and “can-do” attitude foster a positive team environment built on trust, stability and confidence – qualities essential to the success of any program.

Sonya’s contributions, like many of the administrative staff supporting program delivery across the country, may not always be visible, but they are foundational. As an Association, we believe it is important to acknowledge the quiet force that keeps the program running, the trusted support, and the administrative backbone that underpins quality delivery.

It is wonderful that Sonya’s long-term dedication to the program, her professionalism and unwavering commitment to excellence made her a most deserving recipient of the 2025 Unsung Hero Award.
